Mercury Rev’s 1991 debut album ‘Yerself is Steam’ was a critical success, launching the band into live gigs and their 34-tear career.  Soon followed by the 12" single 'Car Wash Hair', the releases led to their third gig being on the main stage at Reading Festival, their fourth was supporting Bob Dylan.  Despite the critical success resulting in strong sales, it was their fourth album, Deserter Song that gained a mainstream audience.
